How to convert nitrate values in ppm to kg/ha in drainage outflow water?

  • 0

I am working on a model, and I have calculated the nitrate values in drainage outflow in ppm, but the model is giving me values in kg/ha area basis, how I can convert my ppm values to kg/ha when I need to compare my observed and simulated data

I have faced the same question when looking at groundwater used to irrigate farm fields. To convert mass/volume to mass/area, you will have to decide how many inches/cm of water will be applied per acre/hectare, and calculate the volume of water applied (e.g., acre-feet). The volume of water with a certain ppm of nitrate will give you the mass of nitrate applied per acre/hectare. The unknown here is what volume of water will be applied, so you could express that as pounds per inch of water applied or the equivalent.
