Shifting Agriculture is harmful to the environment because trees are cut and the land is burned and the ashes produced are added to the soil to increase its fertility and after a period of time when the land looses all its fertility , it is abandoned and another such piece of land is taken up for cultivation.

The shifting cultivation is considered devastating and disadvantageous as it not only cause harm to the ecosystem but also exerts negative impacts on economy. On the contrary, many studies concluded that tribal or practitioners of shifting cultivation are part of conservation.
