Orchids are wonderful and fascinating. They belong to a diverse plant family (Orchidaceae) that includes more than 700 genera and some 28,000 individual species. Blooming in almost every color, orchids are prized for their showy and sweet-smelling flowers. Many are commonly used as houseplants while charming hardy orchids thrive in the garden. Orchids may have a reputation of being difficult to care for, however, certain types or orchids are fairly easy to grow. Whether you grow your orchid on your windowsill, or under lights in your basement, or outdoors, or in a greenhouse, its incomparable beauty brings a way to escape from the stresses of everyday living.
