Fertilizer Drawbacks
Fertilizers can also contaminate water with an overabundance of phosphates and nitrates, making it unsafe for consumption. Oxidized nitrogen, a byproduct of synthetic fertilizers, also increases smog, which may be related to higher incidence of respiratory illness and asthma.
