Shrubs are defined as woody, semiwoody or herbaceous perennial plants, branches arise from the base of the plants, and grow up to a height of about 0.5 to 4 metres. The plants are usually erect and bushy. Most of the shrubs are very hardy, require little attention and grow in all types of soil.

Adding interest and color throughout the seasons, shrubs are essential elements of many garden designs. The permanent structure associated with the wide array of size, flowers, foliage and fruits make them very desirable components of any plantings. There are flowering shrubs for almost every month of the year. You may want to create a year-round display and select beautiful shrubs to create dramatic spring, summer, fall or winter schemes. Check our list of shrubs and browse our fabulous garden ideas to get inspired. Before selecting any shrubs for your garden, remember to check that they are well-suited to your climate, sun exposure and soil conditions.

Shrub, any woody plant that has several stems, none dominant, and is usually less than 3 m (10 feet) tall. When much-branched and dense, it may be called a bush. Intermediate between shrubs and trees are arborescence’s, or treelike shrubs, from 3 to 6 m tall.
