The livestock species play very important economic and socio-cultural roles for the wellbeing of rural households, such as food supply, source of income, asset saving, source of employment, soil fertility, livelihoods, transport, agricultural traction, agricultural diversification and sustainable agricultural .
Livestock includes meat, milk, eggs, manure, fiber, hides and horns. Livestock makes a significant contribution to agriculture value added services and holds a prominent position in the sector; in fact, livestock is one of the fastest-growing sub-sectors in most developing countries.
Livestock provides livelihood to two-third of rural community. It also provides employment to about 8.8 % of the population in India. India has vast livestock resources. Livestock sector contributes 4.11% GDP and 25.6% of total Agriculture GDP.
