In commercial grain farming crops are grown for commercial purpose. Wheat and maize are common commercially grown grains. Major areas where commercial grain farming is praised are temperate grasslands of North America, Europe and Asia.

Commercial grain farming is highly specialized and generally one single crop is grown. In most commercial grain regions that crop is wheat. Both winter wheat and spring wheat is grown in these areas.

Wheat is the principal crop, though other crops like corn, barley, oats and rye are also grown. The size of the farm is very large, therefore entire operations of cultivation from ploughing to harvesting are mechanized (Fig. 5.11). There is low yield per acre but high yield per person.
